Late rally pushes Schuylkill into PSUAC playoffs

It didn't start off the way Schuylkill would have planned it, but the outcome all that was important. Needing one win to clinch a berth in the PSUAC playoffs the Lady Lions found themselves chasing Penn College for most of the game. In the top of the first, a 3-run homerun by Karey Wolfe got Penn College out in front early. Schuylkill would cut the lead to 3-1 in the 2nd, but agressive baserunning by the Wildcats and sloppy defense from the Lady Lions allowed 2 more runs, increasing the lead to 5-1.

After an rbi double by pitcher Bryanna Snowell and sacrifice ground out by Kait Boyer, Schuylkill was again within striking distance at 5-3. The top of the 5th, saw Penn College try and put Schuylkill away with 4 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors. Trailing 9-3 the Lady Lions needed some offense and fast and that's just what they got. It started with a walk by Shannon Kenney, then a Jena Leffler single followed by Danielle Grasso's sacrifice bunt that was thrown away, scoring Damah Conteh, who pinch ran for Kenney. With runners on second and third, Tia Lyons hit a deep double to left scoring Leffler and Grasso. Lyons would later score on a Kelsey Brendle ground out. At that point, Penn College brought in Kim Walter to Christina Mignot, Walter's second pitch was taken deep over the fence in left centerfield fence cutting Penn College's lead to 9-8.

The Wildcats would go three up, three down in the 6th, leaving the margin at one. Kait Boyer would walk top lead off the inning, a single by Tiffany Frantz and walk by Jena Leffler, loaded the bases. In a pickoff attempt gone bad Boyer score from 3rd. Grasso reached with an infield single and reload the bases. Lyons would again hit a towering fly ball off the left field fence driving in the go ahead runs and giving Schuylkill there first lead of the game, 11-9.

They would make that margin stand up as Penn College left two runner on base in the top of the 7th.

Schuylkill's win clinched a spot in May 6th opening round of the PSUAC playoff hosted by PSU Mont Alto. Seeding and game times TBA.
