Beaver splits with Schuylkill on the road

Schuylkill, PA -- After weather pushed back the Lady Lions crossover trip by a day, they finally took the field against Penn State Schuylkill this afternoon for a PSUAC match-up. In game one, the Lady Lions went down by three runs early in the game, but battled back in the third inning. Putting a couple of runs on the board were Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) with a lead-off double, and then a single by Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) scored Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) who reached on an error in her at bat. Schuylkill then added two more runs with one coming in both the third and fourth innings. With the score 5-2 in favor of Schuylkill going into the fifth inning, Beaver added two more runs in the top of the inning with hits coming from junior, Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) and Rachel Borrell who both advanced on a throwing error. With runners now on second and third, a single from freshman, Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) scored Pier. With Borrell now on third, a poor defensive play by Schuylkill got the next batter out, but allowed Borrell to score Beaver's second run of the inning. Schuylkill got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning and then both teams were scoreless in the sixth. Going into the seventh inning, the score 6-4 in favor of Schuylkill, Beaver had their best offensive inning of the game. As they batted through their order, five players had hits including doubles by Rachel Borrell and Sydney Brinton(Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear). Singles came from Pier, Bowersox and Amanda Palombo(Aliquippa, PA/Quigley) as well as additional base runners coming from a few fielder's choice plays and a walk for Korey Freyermuth. Beaver then kept Schuykill off the board and after being down the entire game took the win in impressive fashion by a final score of 9-6.

Game two of the afternoon proved to be far less exciting on offense as both teams did all of their scoring in the first inning. In the top of the inning, with one out, senior Korey Freyermuth hit a solo home run to score Beaver's only run of the game, but Schuylkill answered with two runs of their own and would take the game by a final score of 2-1.

In what proved to be a great defensive battle, Beaver only have up five hits in the game with Freyermuth on the mound. In her six innings pitched in the game, she struck out six batters and gave up just two runs.

Earning hits in the game for Beaver were Korey Freyermuth, Sydney Brinton and Rachel Borrell.
