Softball: Kratzer Helps Wildcats in Split with Beaver

MONACA, Pa. - With the help of three doubles, two runs and an RBI from freshman Katie Kratzer (Selinsgrove), the Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team split a Penn State University Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday with Penn State Beaver. The Lady Wildcats lost game one 4-1 but bounced back for a 3-2 victory in the second. With the split, the Wildcats improve to 5-15 overall and 3-5 in the PSUAC.

 

Beaver jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one in the second. Junior starter Lacy Lose (Avis) allowed two more runs before coming in out in the fourth. She closed out her book with three strikeouts and six hits. Freshman Kimberly Walter (Beavertown) finished the final two innings allowing only one hit and adding two strikeouts.

 

Penn College put up its run in the seventh off an RBI fielder's choice from sophomore Stephanie Koleno (Moshannon). Kratzer scored on the play having hit a double to get into scoring position.

 

In the game, the Lady Wildcats had a tough game at the plate with only two hits. Sophomore Stephanie Keifrider (Douglassville) recorded the other hit with a single in the first.

 

The Lions took an early lead in the second game scoring two runs over the first three innings. Penn College cut the lead in hald with a run in the fourth off an RBI single from Koleno. Two more runs in the seventh sealed the victory for the team in the seventh. Kratzer and Lose both recorded RBI in the inning.

 

Freshman Christina Mignot (Hughesville) recorded the win in relief pitching the final two innins allowing only three hits with three strikeouts. Walters started the game pitching the first four innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs.

 

In the game, Kratzer was 2 for 2 with two doubles.

 

Next up, the Lady Wildcats travel to Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday, Apr. 10 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
