Women’s Volleyball: Lady Wildcats Advance to PSUAC Semifinals with Win Against PSU Hazleton

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team ended the playoff run of #5 Penn State Hazleton Tuesday with a 3-0 win. The #4 Lady Wildcats swept 25-22, 25-16, 25-14. The match was a defensive battle with senior Rachel Heller (Allison Park) leading all players with 21 digs. Junior Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) led all hitters with 15 kills and added 17 digs. With the victory, Penn College improves to 13-19 overall and 12-5 in the conference as well as advances to the Penn State University Athletic Conference semifinals. 

 

Set one was the tightest of the match with Hazleton (11-7, 11-6 PSUAC) leading through most of it. The Lady Wildcats took a slight lead at 23-22 with Gernert serving for the final two points with an ace to steal the first set victory. She totaled three aces for the match.

 

From there, Penn College sailed through the next two sets. The team totaled a .127 (31-118) hitting percentage for the game.

 

Also for the Lady Wildcats, freshman Cathleen Aviles (Robesonia) had 20 assists and sophomore Loralee Lindemuth (Tidioute) added nine kills and two blocks.

 

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State University to take on #1 Penn State Fayette at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall.
