Beaver loses final regular season game to Fayette

Uniontown, PA -- The Lady Lions went on the road this morning for their final regular season game against rival Fayette. With a 10-5 record going into the match, Beaver knew they were going to have to play their best to beat undefeated Fayette.

In the first set the Lady Lions started out passing more consistently than they had been in their previous matches. Their improved passing is what kept them in the first set for the first six to seven points. Fayette then brought one of their best servers to the endline and Beaver struggled to break her serve and fell behind by 6 points which proved to be too many to overcome against a very consistent Fayette team as the set finished with a score of 25-12.

The second set started much the same way with Beaver passing well, but again the aggressive serving of the Roaring Lions of Fayette mixed with their fast offense was too much for Beaver to keep up with. Despite the blocking efforts of Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls, Pa/Beaver Falls) and the offensive efforts of Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA/Sto-Rox), Beaver's serve was not consistent enough and a mix of errors and slow defense resulted in the team dropping the set 25-10.

In the third set, Beaver was able to refocus and get back on track. With their passing improved and the defense hustling behind the hitters, they were able to keep the game within 3 points for the majority of the set before eventually falling 25-18.

Despite the loss to the number one seed, Beaver will still make a playoff appearance finishing sixth in the conference with a 10-6 record in the PSUAC. They will have to travel to either Penn State Brandywine or Penn State Mont Alto, which will be determined by the outcome of the game between those two teams who also played today.

The playoffs are slated to start Tuesday, October 22nd as Beaver will make their first ever playoff appearance under second year coaches BJ Bertges and Ana Fontes.
