Volleyball wins against Penn State Greater Allegheny

Monaca, PA- Penn State Beaver women's volleyball wins against Penn State Greater Allegheny on their Senior Night.

The match opened with both teams battling fiercely, you could see the want for the win in each team's eyes. In the first set both teams played exceptional well, Beaver had great passing and kept the ball in the air for long volleys. The score was neck and neck the whole set, when Beaver would score, Greater Allegheny would immediately answer. Greater Allegheny was able to beat Beaver to 25 in this set but Beaver was ready to come back out and play harder.

In the second set, Beaver had great passing effort and when they had the chance they capitalized and scored. Beaver had a total of 29 attempts compared to just 15 for Greater Allegheny. Beaver would continue to score points throughout the set, ending the set with a score of 27-25, Beaver.

In the third set, which was arguably Beaver's best set of the match, Beaver's momentum and drive increased, they just dominated the court. They had 32 total attempts, 10 of which were successful kills. Beaver's Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA/Sto-Rox) and Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) led the team's offense in this set and throughout the whole match with a combined of 18 kills.

In the fourth and final set, Beaver could taste the win, all the players were screaming out chants to build the drive of the starters. There was a sense of exhaustion from both teams after playing so hard for three sets, but Beaver still had some fight left. Beaver's Miranda Pfeiffer (Freedom, PA/Freedom) and Gina Richman (Edinburg, PA/Union) led the team's defense in terms of digs. Beaver's defense is really what saved them in the last set, with a final score of 25-18 and an overall score of 3-1, Beaver.

Beaver faces Penn College and Penn State Hazelton next on Saturday, October 12 starting at 2 p.m.
