Volleyball loses to Alfred State and wins against PSU New Kensington

New Kensington, PA- The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball loses to Alfred State and wins against Penn State New Kensington in a Tri-Match.

In the first match against Alfred State, Beaver couldn't find any consistency in their scoring efforts. They struggled to put points on the board the whole match. The first set was really what set the tempo for the remainder of the match, with a set score of 25-10.

On that note though the team's older players such as Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) and Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA/Sto-Rox), each held their composure and scored a few of the points that were made. Beaver keeps developing as a team but unfortunately they couldn't produce a win in this effort with a final overall score of 3-0.

In the second match Beaver went up against Penn State New Kensington. In this match, Beaver dominated the court with excellent passing and scoring efforts. It showed that Beaver wasn't going to let their previous loss hinder their attempt.

In the first set, Beaver and New Kensington went neck and neck, answering point after point. Each team had their key players stepping up to the plate making kills and making great passes. The score of the set was 26-24, leaving no room for error in the next set.

In the second set, the score was flipped with New Kensington winning. Beaver played harder knowing that they were at equal odds now with the total score 1-1.

The third set was the game changer, Beaver was able to capitalize much more often than New Kensington. Beaver had a total of 9 kills in this match to rival New Kensington's 6. They won the set giving them a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth and final set, Beaver continued their momentum with 13 kills. Beaver's key players on offense were Gamble with 16 kills and Ward with 12 kills. On defense Beaver had Gina Richman (Edinburg, PA/Union) who had 15 digs and Miranda Pfeiffer (Freedom, PA/Freedom) who had 13. Beaver won the match, 3-1.

Beaver faces off against Penn State Greater Allegheny on Wednesday, October 9 at 7 p.m.
