Women’s Volleyball: Elmira Holds Off Lady Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT Pa. – Senior Rachel Heller (Allison Park, Pa.) racked up 15 kills as the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team came up just short to Elmira College 3-0. The Lady Wildcats got off to a slow start losing set one 25-10 but came back with some hard fought sets losing only 25-18 and 25-20. Junior Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) led Penn College with 11 kills and added 10 digs to the mix. With the loss, the team now drops to 4-14 overall.

In set one, Elmira (12-7) came out firing on all cylinders taking a ten point lead and never looking back. The team totaled 11 kills in the game and only two errors.

Over the next two sets though, the Lady Wildcats fought back and took early leads in both sets. Some timely kills by Elmira though helped them edge out the victory. As a team Elmira hit .243 for the game.

Also for the Lady Wildcats, freshman Cathleen Aviles (Robesonia) totaled 15 assists and sophomore Loralee Lindemuth (Tidioute) had a good day on the service line with three assists.

Next up, the Penn College travels to Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, Oct. 5 for a conference quad match starting at noon.
