Women’s Volleyball: Lady Wildcats Come Up Empty on Day One of Lycoming Classic

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) recorded 19 killsin two games as the Pennylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team competed at the Lycoming College Classic Friday night. Penn College lost in straight sets to both Misericordia University and Elmira College. With the losses, the team falls to 4-11 overall.  

 

Misericordia recorded 30 kills on its way to a 25-16, 25-14, 25-12 win. Gernert notched seven of Penn College's 12 kills in the games. Freshman Cathleen Aviles (Robesonia) had 12 assists and senior Rachel Heller (Allison Park) worked hard on defense with 14 digs.

 

The Lady Wildcats had a good game at the net recording six block assists with Aviles and freshman Kaitlyn Klein (Lock Haven) each recording two.

 

Against Elmira, Penn College struggled to put together any runs losing 25-8, 25-8, 25-15. Gernert led with 12 kills while Aviles added 13 assists. As a team, they totaled 28 digs with Heller notching right.

 

The Eagles were on point with a .432 hitting percentage and totaling 38 kills.

 

Next up, Penn College travels back to Lycoming College on Saturday, Sept. 28 for day two of the Classic.
