Women’s Volleyball: Lady Wildcats swept at Lycoming Quad

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team had a tough day at the Lycoming College quad match Saturday going 0-3. The Lady Wildcats lost 3-0 in all games against Baptist Bible College, Wilkes University and Lycoming College. Junior Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) led the team totaling 34 kills while freshman Cathleen Aviles (Robesonia) notched 44 assists. With the losses, Penn College falls to 1-7 overall.  

 

In the opener against Baptist, the Lady Wildcats battled in the first two sets just getting edged out 25-23 and 25-22. The Defenders cruised in the third set 25-12. Gernert led the offense with 10 kills while sophomore Loralee Lindemuth (Tidioute) was right behind with 8. Defensively, the team totaled 30 digs with Gernert and senior Rachel Heller (Allison Park) each recording 10.

 

Against Wilkes, Penn College was never able to get a lead playing catch-up and losing 25-19, 25-13, 25-18. Gernert had 16 kills while Aviles helped with 19 assists. Heller added 14 digs to the mix.

 

In the final game of the day against Lycoming, the Lady Wildcats struggled the most falling 25-6, 25-22, 25-12. They totaled only 16 kills.

 

Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State Mont Alto on Sunday, Sept. 15 for a noon match.
