Beaver finishes 4th at USCAA Tip Off Tournament
Elizabeth, PA -- In the second day of play at the USCAA Tip Off Tournament, Beaver started their morning with a win over Southern State Community College, winning 3-1. After dropping the first set, Beaver battled to win the next three. Leading the offense were Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA/Sto-Rox), Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) and Madeline Hill (Monaca, PA/Central Valley). In addition to the hitters, the serving was outstanding in the match with 6 different players scoring on aces.
Despite winning their last pool play game, Beaver drew the number one seed, Rochester College in the semi-final round. Much like yesterday the hard hitting and fast pace of Rochester proved to be too much for Beaver's young team to handle as they fell by a match score of 3-0.
In the final match of the afternoon, Beaver took on Clark State in the 3rd place game. Despite keeping errors to a minimum, the Eagles again defeated Beaver for the second time in the tournament. Leading Beaver in the match were Miranda Pfeiffer (Freedom, PA/Freedom) who had 3 aces and M. Hill who had 8 kills.
Coach Bertges was pleased with their play this weekend as she sees a much improved team from last season. The Lady Lions return to action next week when they take on Bethany on Tuesday, September 3rd.
