Wildcats Drop Final Two Games at USCAAs

CANTON, N.Y. – On the second day of group play at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Championships, the Pennsylvania College of Technology lost its final two games, dropping the team out of contention for the title. The Wildcats lost 2-0 to both Carlow University and host SUNY-Canton. "We made some mental mistakes and didn't correct them," said head coach Bambi Hawkins. "There were some sparks that looked to change the momentum, but the team just couldn't put it together."

Against Carlow, the Wildcats lost 25-18 and 25-11. Sophomore Melissa Lake (Winburne) led with four kills. "Melissa did her thing with capitalizing on her opportunities," said Hawkins. "[Kelly Hebert] also got some momentum going"

Sophomore Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) had two blocks and added two digs. As a team, Penn College totaled 10 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) and freshmen Morgan Moberg (Huntingdon) and Gabrielle George (Morton) led with four digs each.

In their final game, the Wildcats were swept by SUNY-Canton 25-12 and 25-12. "Gernert came on strong in this match," said Hawkins. Gernert notched three kills and seven digs.

Also for Penn College, senior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) had three kills while sophomore Caitlyn Curley (Middletown) led with seven assists.

The Wildcats will await to see if they will play the Penn State University Athletic Conference Championship match. The match, originally scheduled on Monday, Oct. 29 against Penn State Fayette was postponed due to inclement weather.
