Lady Wildcats Stamp Ticket to PSUAC Championships with 3-1 Win over PSU Brandywine

Women's Volleyball:

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With the help of 10 kills and 10 digs from sophomore Courtney Gernert, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Penn State Brandywine 3-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference semifinals Sunday. The Wildcats played strong defense totaling 63 digs with sophomore Caitlyn Curley (Middletown) leading all players with 16. The win sends the team to the championship match against Penn State Fayette, a repeat of last year's final.

Penn College (23-7, 17-1 PSUAC) came out hot in the first set with a 25-10 lead. The Lions took an early lead in set two, but could not hold on as strong defense and some clutch kills from senior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) gave the win to the Wildcats 25-23. Miscommunication and errors proved to be the culprit behind the 25-18 loss in set three but Penn College bounced back and dominated in set four 25-10.

Powell ended the game with nine kills, five aces and 15 digs.

The Wildcats totaled 10 blocks with sophomore Melissa Lake (Winburne) and Curley each notching four in the match.

Also for Penn College, freshman Morgan Moberg (Huntingdon) and Curley had had 11 assists while freshman Gabrielle George (Morton) had 12 digs.

The Wildcats will travel back to Rec Hall to take on Penn State Fayette for the championship on Monday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.
