Wildcat Battle in 3-1 Win at Lackawanna

SCRANTON, Pa. - Sophomore Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) totaled 20 kills and sophomore Caitlyn Curley (Middletown) had 22 assists to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Lackawanna College. The Wildcats won the first two games 25-13, 27-25 before dropping set three 29-27. After regrouping, they played a strong fourth winning 25-13. Senior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) added 20 digs and four aces in the victory that improves the team to 10-5 overall.

Lackawanna jumped out to a 5-0 lead in set one before strong serving from Curley and Powell put Penn college back into it. The team spotted Lackawanna a 4-0 lead in set two, this time Gernert's offense with four kills helped the team to swing the momentum.

After the loss in set three, strong overall team play allowed the Wildcats to dominate. Powell and sophomore Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) each had four kills in the set.

Next up, the Wildcats host Penn State Schuylkill, Penn State Hazleton and Penn State Brandywine in a conference quad match on Saturday, Oct. 6 beginning at 11 a.m.
