Lady Wildcats Extend Win Streak to Seven

HAZLETON, Pa. – With the help of 18 kills and 27 digs from sophomore Courtney Gernert (Palmyra), the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team defeated both Penn State York and Penn State Mont Alto 3-0 in a conference quad match hosted by Penn State Hazleton. Senior Tara Powell was also a defensive standout notching 33 digs between the two matches. With the wins the Wildcats improve their win streak to seven and raise their overall record to 14-5 and conference record to 9-0.

Against York, Penn College won 25-22, 25-13, 25-17. Gernert led with 11 kills while sophomores Melissa Lake (Winburne), Kelly Herbert (Wellsboro) and Caitlyn Curley (Middletown) each added eight kills. Curley also led the team with 17 kills while freshman Morgan Moberg (Huntington) helped the cause with 15.

Herbert was a wall at the net totaling six blocks.

Having swept Mont Alto earlier in the year, the Wildcats did it again by scores of 25-10, 25-22, 25-23. Lake led the team with nine kills while Gernert had 17 digs. Also strong defensively were Powell with 16 and freshman Gabrielle George (Morton) with 11.

Penn College put up great numbers on the service line with George tallying seven aces and Powell six. The team totaled 17 in the match.

Next up, the Wildcats host Penn State Scranton on Wednesday, Oct. 10 for a 7 p.m. match.
