Wildcats Split on First Day of Lycoming Volleyball Classic

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team went 1-1 on day one of the Lycoming College Volleyball Classic. The Wildcats defeated The City College of New York 3-1 but were swept by host Lycoming College 3-0. Senior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) led the team with 22 kills in the two matches. The split improves Penn College to 7-4 overall.

Against City College, the Wildcats won 25-11, 18-25, 25-18, 25-14. Powell notched 17 kills while sophomore Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) had 10. As a team they totaled 36 kills and had a strong defensive game with 62 digs and nine blocks. Gernert led with 15 digs.

Lycoming proved to be tough opponent as Penn College struggled to get an offensive rhythm. They lost 25-19, 25-16, 25-15. Errors were an issue with the team committing16. Gernert continued her strong defense with 19 digs bringing her night's total to 34.

The Wildcats get back into action at the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29 taking on Misericordia University at 11 a.m.
