Wildcat Volleyball Splits Doubleheader

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) racked up 19 kills and 25 digs as the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team split a doubleheader Wednesday night. The Wildcats lost a tough 3-1 match to Mount Aloysius College before bouncing back to a 3-0 win against Valley Forge Christian College. The split keeps Penn College just shy of the .500 mark with a 2-3 overall record.

In game one against Mount Aloysius, the Wildcats kept pace and kept the game tight before just losing 25-23. They bounced back with a 25-16 win but had an off set in the third dropping 25-18. After Mount Aloysius had a 10 point lead early on in set four, the Wildcats rallied back to tie it but couldn't hold on just being edged out 26-24.

Powell recorded 13 kills and 21 digs in the game while freshman Gabrielle George (Morton) had a season high 23 digs.

Things were much different for Penn College against the Patriots as they cruised through the first two sets 25-12 and 25-8. Some errors allowed the Patriots to keep it close in the third but Penn College held on and rallied in the end for the 25-16 win.

Sophomore Melissa Lake (Winburne) led the team with seven kills in the game while Powell added five service aces.

Next up, the Wildcats host Penn State Hazleton and Penn State DuBois for a tri-match starting at 12 p.m.
