Lady Wildcats Open 2012 with Victory over Luzerne

 NANTICOKE, Pa. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team opened up its 2012 campaign with a decisive 3-0 win over Luzerne County Community College. Sophomores Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) and Melissa Lake (Winburne) led with eight kills each while sophomore Caitlyn Curley (Middletown) stepped into the setter position for the first time this year and notched 12 assists.

The Wildcats were dominant the first set winning 25-6. Sophomore Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) was strong on the service line in the game with four aces. Luzerne hung tough in the second set taking it to 10-10 before Penn College went on a run and ended the set 25-11. This time it was senior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) with the killer serve adding four aces. The third set proved to be the toughest but the Wildcats edged out Luzerne for the win with 25-20.

Also for Penn College (1-0), freshman Morgan Moberg (Huntington) shared setting duties with Curley and tallied 11 assists on the day. The team totaled 27 kills.

Next up, the Wildcats host Lycoming College and Baptist Bible College on Saturday, Sept. 1 for a tri-match beginning at 11 a.m.
