Penn State Schuylkill (22-7, 18-1) vs. Penn State Beaver (18-7, 14-5)

It’s your classic East vs. West matchup on the women’s side, with Penn State Schuylkill going head-to-head with Penn State Beaver.

Led by East Player of the Year Alyssa Gerber, Schuylkill finished atop the East with a 22-7 overall record and was a near perfect 18-1 in-conference. Gerber is second on the team in scoring, posting just under 14 points per game and is also the leading rebounder, snatching just under 9.

Her counterpart is freshman Tajae Stevenson, who was named East Rookie of the year after an excellent inaugural campaign. Stevenson is Schuylkill’s leading scorer, averaging 15.6 per game. She’s second in rebounds per game putting up 8.4 and second in assists with 1.6.

Gerber and Stevenson, along with Coach of the Year Charles Killian have catapulted Schuylkill to the top of the East.

It’ll be to be a tall task, but if anyone can take down Schuylkill, it’s Penn State Beaver.

Beaver finished the year sitting atop the West with a 18-7 overall record and went 14-5 in-conference.

Its led by West Defensive Player of the Year, Jimya Chambers, who averages a whopping 3.4 steals per game. Chambers also happens to be the team’s leading scorer, rebounder and assist-getter, averaging 11.3, 2.1 and 5.8, respectively.

Chambers and Alexis Cross make up a dangerous 1-2 punch for Beaver. Cross is just behind Chambers, averaging 11.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. She also contributes on the defensive end, swiping 1.4 steals per contest.

The dynamic duo of Chambers and Cross will certainly give Schuylkill a run for its money.

Their only matchup of the year went into overtime, where Schuylkill emerged victorious 63-58, but not before blowing a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter.

In the semifinals, both No. 1 seeds routed their opponents en route to their championship appearance.

Schuylkill is seeking its first ever championship for the program, while this would be Beaver’s ninth, tying the record for the most ever in PSUAC women’s basketball history. It would also be back-to-back championships for Beaver, last taking home the trophy in 2020 (no championship in 2021 due to COVID-19).

It’s going to be an exciting Saturday matinee, with four great teams facing off in two great matchups. You can watch live at www.psucampusathletics.com!
