Women’s Basketball: Lady Wildcats Notch First Win of Season with 69-48 Win over PSU Schuylkill

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Scoring a season high 69 points, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team broke a seven game losing streak and notched its first win of the season with a 69-48 win over Penn State Schuylkill. Sophomore Danielle Mowery (Shamokin) led the winning effort with 17 points while sophomore Margaret Dewire (Beaver Springs) notched five blocks. With the win, the Lady Wildcats now improve to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

After an opening basket by the Lions, Penn College went on a 9-0 run, four from Mowery to take the lead. Some turnovers ensued allowing the Lions to bring it to 13-7 with just over 14 minutes to play in the half.

A layup from freshman Chelsea Burger (Millersburg) gave the Lady Wildcats their biggest lead of the half at 22-9. Schuylkill was able to bring it within five but they held strong going into the half up 32-23. She ended the game with 11 points.

For the half, Penn College shot 14-31 (.452) from the field which Mowery an impressive 5-6 (.833) from the field for 10 points. Both teams struggled with ball control totaling 35 turnovers.

Out of the break, the Lady Wildcats went on a 6-0 run to make it a 38-23 game. They stayed in control for the rest of the half taking their biggest lead in the closing minutes of the game at 69-46 with a layup from sophomore Nicole Reyes Molina (Lancaster). She ended the game with 11.

For the game, the Lady Wildcats out-rebounded Schuylkill 49-38 with freshmen Jordan Addie (Muncy Valley) and Charese Bova (Beech Creek) leading with eight each.

Next up, Penn College travels to Alfred University on Sunday, Dec. 8 for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
