Women’s Basketball: Bova and Dewire in Double Figures as York Beats Lady Wildcats 81-52

YORK, Pa. – Freshman Charese Bova (Beech Creek) notched 12 points while sophomore Margaret Dewire (Beaver Springs) added 10 as the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team lost its opening conference match against Penn State York 81-52 Tuesday. The game was tight in the first half with both teams taking leads in the first five minutes, but York came on strong to build a double-digit lead and never give it up. With the loss, the Lady Wildcats fall to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

Junior Alison Van Metter (Saylorsburg) opened the game with a jumper to put the Lady Wildcats up first. Four more ties ensued until York went on a run in the 14th to go up 29-17.

Van Metter finished the first half shooting a perfect 3-3 from the field.

The Lions continued to surge offensively going into the break up 45-25 despite not scoring in the last two minutes of the half.

Penn College played consistently in the second half scoring 27 to the Lions' 36, but the big lead from the first half was too much to overcome.

As a team, the Lady Wildcats shot 24-60 (.400) from the field and out-rebounded York 37-33 in rebounds. Bova led the squad with seven.

Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State Mont Alto at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
