Women’s Basketball: Brandywine Ends Lady Wildcats’ Playoff Run
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team lost 80-62 to #1 Penn State Brandywine in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Quarterfinals Tuesday. Freshman Jamie Steer (South Williamsport) led all scorers with 22 points while senior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) notched 13. With the loss, the Lady Wildcats end their season 12-13 overall and 7-8 in the PSUAC.
Sophomore Jenna Matzinger (Coudersport) opened the game with two free throws to put Penn College up early. After two more lead changes, the Lions went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-6 lead in the 13th.
Matzinger ended the game with six points and seven assists.
Kierstin Steer hit a free throw in the 6th to cap off a 5-2 run bringing it to 24-21. After she fouled in the closing seconds of the half, Brandywine's Irene Matos hit three from the charity stripe taking her team into the break up 40-31.
The Lions held onto the lead for the entire second half. Sophomore Dana Reed (Sunbury) hit a jumper in the 12th to bring it to within seven, but it would be as close as Penn College would get.
Reed ended with seven points and four assists.
For the game, the Lady Wildcats shot 25-75 (.347) from the field and were out-rebounded 55-46. Brandywine was hot from beyond the arc hitting 11 in the game.
