Women’s Basketball: Steer Scores 19 in Loss to PSU Wilkes Barre

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Jamie Steer (South Williamsport) led with 19 points but the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team lost 68-64 in conference action Saturday. Sophomore Mackenzie Brown (Lititz) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while sophomore Dana Reed (Sunbury) and senior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) each scored in the double figures with 17 and 10 respectively. The loss now drops Penn College to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.  

 

Penn College's only lead of the game came in the early minutes of the first half when freshman Danielle Mowery (Shamokin) hit a good jumper to make it 4-2 at 18:05. The Lions took the lead back with a 6-0 run and held on for the rest of the half. They went into the break up 33-29.

 

Mowery finished the game with five points and four assists.

 

In the second, the Lady Wildcats tied it up three times but were unable to get any consistent momentum. Wilkes Barre had the lead as high as 12 in the half. The Lady Wildcats suffered a setback when Kierstin Steer fouled out with over 12 minutes remaining in the game.

 

For the game, Penn College out-rebounded the Lions 44-40. The team shot .364 (24-66) from the field.

 

This is the second time the two teams have met this year with Penn College winning the first meeting 72-65.

 

Next up, the Lady Wildcats host Central Penn College on Monday, Jan. 21 for a 6 p.m. game.
