Women’s Basketball: Lady Wildcats End 2012 With Win Over Luzerne

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team won 69-61 over Luzerne County Community College in its final game of the 2012 portion of the season. Sophomore Jamie Steer (South Williamsport) led the team with 19 points and added 10 rebounds while sophomore Mackenzie Brown (Lititz) had 14 and senior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) added 10. The win improves the team to 6-5 overall. 

 

Luzerne (2-7) took the early lead in the first half and held it until back-to-back free throws from sophomore Alison Van Metter (Saylorsburg) put the Lady Wildcats on top 15-14 at 11:31. Seven more lead changes occurred before the Lady Wildcats ended the half on an 8-0 run, six from Jamie Steer, to go into the break up 38-33.

 

Penn College held onto the lead throughout the second half with the Trailblazers bringing it to within one on two occasions.

 

As a team, the Wildcats totaled 53 rebounds to Luzerne's 62. Sophomore Jenna Matzinger (Coudersport) led with 14 rebounds. They totaled an impressive 12 blocks in the game. For Luzerne, Nicole Maximowicz led all scorers and rebounders with 22 each.

 

Next up, Penn College takes a break for the holidays before getting back into action on Saturday, Jan, 12 with a home game at 1 p.m. against Penn State Greater Allegheny.
