Women’s Basketball: Steer Sinks 26 as Lady Wildcats Improve to 3-0 in PSUAC

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Jamie Steer (South Williamsport) scored a career high 26 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team to a 72-65 win over Penn State Wilkes Barre Wednesday. Freshman Danielle Mowery (Shamokin) helped the cause with 15 points including going 3-6 (.500) from the three point arc. The win improves the Lady Wildcats to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.  

  

Sophomore Jenna Matzinger (Coudersport) opened the game with a three to give Penn College the early lead. Three ties and four lead changes ensued before a 6-0 run, capped off by a three from Mowery, gave the team some breathing room at 20-14. 

 

Matzinger ended the game with five points and 11 rebounds.

 

The Wildcats settled into a rhythm ending the half with a comfortable 36-23 lead.

 

Penn College lead for the first nine minutes of the second half before two good free throws from Tiffany Rochester gave the Lions a 51-49 lead. After a couple more lead changes, the Wildcats went on a 13-2 run, four from Jamie Steer, to take a 69-59 lead with just under three left.

 

Also for the Wildcats, senior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) totaled 10 points while sophomore Mackenzie Brown (Lititz) had 10 rebounds.

 

Wilkes Barre out-rebounded the Wildcats 69-57.

 

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Beaver on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a 1 p.m. game.
