Women's Basketball Advances to Final Four With 77-66 Upset Win Over DuBois

DuBois, Pa- Megan Brinkos (McKeesport) picked a great night to hit a new career high in points.  The Sophomore forward led Greater Allegheny with 23 points and 9 rebounds, as they stunned Penn State DuBois in the opening round of the PSUAC Playoffs, 77-66.

The GA women were able to avoid the slow start that had been plaguing them in recent games, and led 41-35 heading into the break.  A balanced offense, and strong shooting performance (26-61, 42.6%), featured four GA women scoring in double-figures.  Sophomore guard Monica Poupakis (West Mifflin) scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, while Freshman guard Nakayla Layne (Allderdice) added 10 off the bench.  Returning from an ankle injury, Senior forward Rachel Halaszynski (Elizabeth Forward) played a major role, scoring 11 points and securing 6 rebounds in her return.

With the victory, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women advance to the PSUAC Final Four, where they will meet Penn State Fayette.  Date and time are currently TBA
