Wildcats Fall 67-61 to PSU Wilkes Barre

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite 20 points from junior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport), the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team lost 67-61 to Penn State Wilkes Barre Thursday night.  Freshmen Bryanna Valentine (Mifflinburg) and Dana Reed (Sunbury) each added 11.  The loss drops the team to 1-22 overall and 1-12 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

Both teams were on par statistically with Wilkes Barre just out-rebounding the Wildcats 44-43.  Freshman Mackenzie Brown (Lititz) led the Wildcats with 10 rebounds while Wilkes Barre's Molly Dincher pulled down ten boards to lead her team.  

The game started tight with both teams trading buckets.  After another tie, the Lions went on a tear with a 6-0 run to make it 10-4 at 16:39.  Aubrey Wargowsky hit a three to five the team its biggest lead of the game at 23-9.  Penn College came back and slowly chipped away at the lead bringing it to 31-29 at the end of the half.

Same story different half as Wilkes Barre came out on a run to go up 38-31 with just under 19 to play.  Steer hit a jumper at 5:46 to make it a one point game.  Wilkes Barre stayed focused and key free throw shooting ended the game in their favor.

Also for the Lions, Michele Vowler had 22 points while Tiara Brathwaite and Catherine Beach each added 13.

The Wildcats next travel to Penn State Schuylkill on Monday, February 13 for a 6 p.m. game
