Fayette Too Aggressive Second Time Around

Uniontown, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (13-7, 10-3 PSUAC) played a very important away game this afternoon against a tough Penn State Fayette (Uniontown, PA). The Lady Lions needed to win today's game to remain #1 in the PSUAC West Division.

Coleen Mead (Newport Harbor/Costa Mesa, CA) put the Lady Lions on the board first, but a 13-6 run by the Lady Roaring Lions of Fayette found Beaver behind early (13-8). Free throws from Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) ended the run bringing beaver within four (13-9). Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) hit a three pointer to bring Beaver within six (19-13). At the 10:10 mark however, Fayette went on a 4-0 run to give them their biggest lead of the first half (23-13). The Lady Lions of Beaver kept up with Fayette during the first half, but found themselves down by 11 at halftime 36-25.

Temple went on a 5-0 run of her own in the opening of the second half to bring Beaver back within six (36-30). With 16:51 left in the game however, Fayette expanded their lead back to 12 (42-30). The momentum continued in Fayette's favor for the rest of the game unfortunately, as the Lady Lions went on to lose for the day 73-52. Today's loss pushed the Lady Lions into the #3 spot in their division as well.

Temple lead the team for the afternoon with 23 points, followed by Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH) with 12. Mulneix lead the team in rebounds with 16, followed by Temple and Kalynn Hill (Montour/Pittsburgh, PA) with 11 each. The Lady Lions shot a season low 27.1% from the field, 10% from three point range (also a season low), and 52.9% from the free throw line. 

The Lady Lions return back home on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 5 p.m against Salem International University (Salem, WV).
