Hazleton Second Half Surge Downs Wildcats 52-44

 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Despite leading 19-13 at the half, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team fell 52-44 to Penn State Hazleton Tuesday night.  Freshman Bryanna Valentine (Mifflinburg) notched a 'double-double' with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Wildcats while Cannon led Taylor Hazleton with 24.  The loss drops Penn College to 2-16 overall and 1-7 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference while the Lions improve to 8-8 and 5-5.

Penn College opened the game on a 3-0 run all from Valentine.  The team held the lead until 8:18 when Cannon hit a jumper to take her team up 9-7.   After some tight play, Penn College ended the half on a 4-0 run, two from freshman Dana Reed (Sunbury) to go into the break up the six points.

Reed ended the game with six points and a team-leading 14 rebounds.  The Wildcats shot .365 (8-22) in the half and held Hazleton to .154 (6-39).

Out of the break, the Lions were hot with a 7-0 run, four from Cannon, to go up 19-21.  They built up their lead to 41-27 with 8:50 left.  Penn College came back with a 5-0 run, three from junior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) to make it a four point game.  The Lions would hold on though for the victory.

Steer ended the game with 11.  

As a team, the Wildcats shot .327 (16-49) for the game and out-rebounded Hazleton with a season high 64 rebounds.  

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Wilkes Barre on Thursday, Feb. 2 for a 6 p.m. game.
