Lady Lions Win Important Game on The Road

DuBois, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (13-6, 10-2 PSUAC) played a key game this evening against Penn State DuBois (DuBois, PA).

DuBois went on the board first but Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) hit a three pointer soon after giving the Lady Lions an early lead. A steal and layup by Mulneix started a 10-2 run to give Beaver a ten point lead (18-8). DuBois soon responded with a 7-2 run of their own to bring the game within five but Hali DeSarro (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH) made a layup to expand the Lady Lions lead to seven again. With 3:41 left in the first half, DuBois got within three (25-22) but trailed going into halftime 35-27.

Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) scored the Lady Lions first four points of the second half to bring the Lady Lions lead back to ten (39-29). Things quickly changed however when DuBois responded with an 11-3 run to bring them within two (42-40) with 14:57 left in the game. Temple hit a three pointer to give them a five point lead again (45-40) but DuBois soon tied the game at 47 at the 12:37 mark. Temple's free throws gave the Lady Lions the lead back but with 11:12 left in the game DuBois took the lead 51-49 for the first time since the opening minutes of the game. Soon after that at the 9:35 mark a Temple layup plus an "and 1" free throw gave the Lady Lions a 54-53 lead. DuBois tied the game again at 59 (5:41) and expanded their lead soon after. Down 71-64, Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH) hit a three pointer to bring the Lady Lions back within four (71-67). Two more free throws from Temple tied the game at 71 with one minute left in the game. Three free throws gave DuBois a 74-71 lead with 16.5 seconds left in the game. After a timeout called by Coach Moore, with enough time for one more play, Tomaselli hit a clutch three point shot with 6.1 seconds left in the game tying it at 74. DuBois couldn't make a final shot, and the game went into overtime.

In overtime, Coleen Mead (Newport Harbor/Costa Mesa, CA) hit a three pointer early to give the Lady Lions a 77-74 lead. Great defense from Beaver forced DuBois to only shoot 9% from the field in overtime only scoring four points. Mead hit another three pointer to seal off the Lady Lions big comeback victory going on to win 87-78.

For the evening, Temple lead all scorers with 29 points, followed by Tomaselli with 20, Mead with 13, and Mulneix with 10. Temple also had 12 rebounds for the evening. The Lady Lions shot 42.2% from the field, 36% from three point range, and 68.6% from the free throw line.

The Lady Lions go back on the road this Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1pm against Penn State Fayette (Uniontown, PA).
