First Win Of The Season For Beaver Women's Basketball

Pittsburgh, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (1-1, 0-0 PSUAC) played in their second game of the season against Franciscan University (Steubenville, OH) during day 2 of the Chatham Tip-Off Tournament.

The first half of the game started out scoreless for almost three minutes before Franciscan made an easy jumpshot. The Lady Lions soon picked up their momentum however with Junior Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) scoring 4 points in under two minutes. The half saw only one tie and one lead change before Beaver would take the lead 29-25 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Lions came out strong and ready, going on a 8-2 run with Freshman Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) making it to the free throw line. Beaver was up by as many as 11 before the Barons of Franciscan would shorten the lead to 6. Aware of this, Junior Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH) hit a key three point shot with under 7 minutes left keeping Beavers lead to nine. With under three minutes left in the game, Fransican went on a 10-2 run hitting a key three pointer of their own giving the Barons a one point lead. Coach Moore quickly called a timeout to give Beaver a chance to calm their nerves. Mulneix was fouled coming out of the timeout taking her to the free throw line for two important points. The Lady Lions won the game 61-57.

The Lady Lions will play their first home game of the season on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 against Geneva College. This home game is free T-shirt night with the first 100 in attendance will receive a free PSU Beaver Athletics T-shirt.
