Beaver finishes 8th in the USCAA Softball Small College World Series

Akron, OH -- The Lady Lions faced St. Mary of the Woods College in the 7th place game this afternoon at 4:00 PM in the USCAA Softball Small College World Series.

In the top of the first inning, Beaver jumped out to an early one run lead as senior, Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry), playing in her last game as a collegiate athlete, homered for the second time today. This would prove to be the only run Beaver would score in their last game of the year.

Beaver's defense, despite being solid earlier in the tournament, allowed SMWC to score four runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the bottom of the second which would prove to be more than the Lady Lions could overcome as they fell by a final score of 10-1 after just 5 innings.

In addition to Freyermuth's home run, also adding to the offense this afternoon were Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) and Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) who each had a hit in the game.

Beaver finishes their season with an overall record of 23-17 and a record of 13-6 in the PSUAC including their second consecutive conference championship. They finish eighth in the USCAA Small College World Series and now look forward to what the 2014 season holds.
