Akron, OH -- In round two of the Small College World Series, Beaver faced the #1 seed Briarcliffe Bulldogs in a 6:00 PM match-up.

The game got off to a fast start as Beaver came out hitting well. With one out, Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) singled to give Beaver their first hit of the game. Next to the plate was Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) who also singled to advance Bowersox. With two runners on, Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear) also singled to score Bowersox and give Beaver a one run lead after their first at bat.

The game then remained scoreless in a great defensive battle until the bottom of the third inning when Briarcliffe, with two outs, got three hits including a 2 RBI double to give them a 2-1 lead.

The defensive battle continued as neither team had hits until the bottom of the fifth inning when Briarcliffe did manage a hit, but were still held scoreless. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that the Bulldogs really took a comfortable lead as they hit a solo home run to give them a 3-1 lead which would ultimately be the final score of the game.

Leading the Lady Lions at the plate was Bowersox who was 2 for 3.

In the circle was Freyermuth who gave up 8 hits and 3 runs making her tournament record 1-1.

The Lady Lions will take the field again Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM when they will face WVU Tech.
