Beaver picks up two wins as the regular season nears its end

Steubenville, OH -- The Lady Lions travled to Franciscan University this afternoon for a non-conference double header as they wrap up their regular season. In the first game of the afternoon the Lady Lions got off to a slow start as they allowed the Baron's to get out to a four run lead giving up two runs in both the second and fourth innigs. In the top of the sixth inning, with one out, junior, Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) got Beaver going with a single and a stolen base. An error by Franciscan allowed her to reach third and an RBI single by Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) opened up the scoring. Another error by the Baron's loaded the bases for Taylor Larson (Beaver, PA/Beaver) who was walked to score the second run of the inning. The third run came on a fielder's choice by Franciscan and then a string of poor pitching by the Baron's led to walks and batters hit by picthes which allowed an additional four runs to give Beaver the lead 7-4 after the inning. The Lady Lions tacked on one more run in the seventh inning to close out the game and win by a score of 8-4.

Beaver was led offensively by Larson who went 2 for 4 at the plate and on the mound was senior, Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) who threw the complete game striking out 8 batters and giving up 8 hits.

The Lady Lions, with their bats hot, came out to win in the second game. An eight run first inning was the result of eight hits as Beaver batted through their line up. Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear), Myranda Robson and Constance Robinson (University of Chicago Charter/Chicago, IL) all had singles and a stolen base in the inning and sophomore, Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) had a single and a double in her two at bats in the inning. Beaver added another run in the third inning to go up by a score of 9-0 before the Barons could answer. Franciscan University did get on the board in the bottom of the third with two run and added a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, but it wasn't enough as Beaver eight more runs in the top of the fifth inning. In was again a string of singles and smart base running that gave the Lady Lions the advantage as they went on to win by a final score of 17-4 in just five innings.

Leading the offense were Borrell, Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley), Brinton, Robson and Alisha Saunders (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) who each had two hits in the game.

Pitching was Freyermuth who in five innings struck out 7 and gave up just 4 hits.

The Lady Lions now look forward to the PSUAC playoffs which are scheduled to start May 6th.
