Beaver sweeps Scranton in PSUAC match-up

Monaca, PA – Today the Lady Lions hosted Penn State Worthington Scranton for a PSUAC double header. In game one, Beaver came out hitting well after holding Scranton scoreless in the first inning. With one out, hits came from Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry), Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley), Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh,PA/Brashear) and Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) which resulted in three runs. After the second out, the Lady Lions continued their run as a single by Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) followed by two stolen bases allowed her to score on a single by Taylor Larson (Beaver, PA/Beaver) to make the score at the end of the first inning 5-0. Scranton got on the board in the top of the second, but Beaver increased their lead by three more runs including a two run home run by junior Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton). The hits continued to come as Beaver scored three more runs in the third inning and closed things out with a lead off solo home run by Myranda Robson in the bottom of the fourth, her first of the year. Scranton wasn't able to battle back and fell in five innings by a final score of 12-1.

Leading the Lady Lions on offense were Korey Freyermuth and Myranda Robson who both went 3 for 3, and Lauren Pier, Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East), Sydney Brinton, Rachael Charlier and Taylor Larson who all had two hits in the game. All nine of the starters had at least one hit in the game giving Beaver a total of 18 hits.

On the mound to start the game was Freyermuth who threw three innings striking out four, and only giving up one run and three hits. In relief was Charlier who pitched two innings and struck out one.

The second game of the afternoon was very similar to the first as Beaver scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning including a double by Lauren Pier and a two run home run by Sydney Brinton. Brinton, who was hitting well, in her at bat in the second inning doubled to score Pier giving her three RBI's in the game. With the score 8-0 after the first two innings, Scranton couldn't even produce a run and eventually got shut out after Beaver added two runs in the third and fourth innings to make the final score 12-0.

Beaver hit well again with 10 of the 13 players getting at least one hit in the game. Leading the team were Korey Freyermuth who went 3 for 4 including a double and Bowersox, Brinton, Pier and Robson who all went 2 for 3 with at least one double a piece.

Taking the mound to start the game was senior, Korey Freyermuth, who tossed three innings giving up just four hits and again in relief was Charlier who threw two innings and only gave up two hits.

After two big conference wins today, Beaver returns to action tomorrow at home as they host Penn State Hazleton in a 12:00 p.m. start.
