Beaver gets back on track with two wins against Penn State Greater Allegheny

Woodland Hills, PA -- The Lady Lions traveled to Penn State Greater Allegheny for a PSUAC double header this afternoon. After not hitting well in their last few games, Beaver came out swinging. In the top of the first inning they generated two runs before Greater Allegheny was able to get an out. With hits coming from Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) and Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) to start their run, after an out, Beaver then went on to score eight more runs as clutch hits came from Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester), Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) and Nicole Bowersox in addition to poor pitching and carelessness by Greater Allegheny. After holding their opponents scoreless in their at bat, the Lady Lions went in to the top of the second inning looking to score again. After errors put Robson on second, Taylor Larson (Beaver, PA/Beaver) singled to advance the runner and then stole second. Borrell, the third batter of the inning was then walked to load the bases. Greater Allegheny continued to struggle from the mound as they walked in two additional runs and then a third on a passed ball. From here Beaver never looked back, and despite allowing Greater Allegheny to score two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fifth, Beaver hung on to win comfortably 14-5.

Leading the offense in the first game were Bowersox, Larson and Rachel Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) who each had 2 hits. In addition to her hits, Bowersox also added an impressive 5 RBI's in the game.

On the mound for Beaver was senior Korey Freyermuth who in five innings gave up 5 hits and struck out 2.

In the second game of the day, Beaver statyed hot, hitting consistently throughout the game scoring in all but two innings. Just like the first game, Beaver had over half of their line up get hits in the game. In the first inning, Beaver had two hits by Borrell and Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear) to score two runs. In the third inning, after Robson was walked and then advanced on a stolen base and then again on an error, Larson singled to score her and give Beaver the 3-0 lead. In the fifth inning, hits came again from Bowersox and Brinton who scored Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) who was walked in the inning. The sixth inning featured a Freyermuth double and yet another hit and two RBI's for Bowersox who had an outstanding day at the plate. After scoring their eighth and final run in the seventh inning, Beaver took the win easily by a final score of 8-0.

Offensively, Bowersox, Brinton and Larson lead the way with two hits a piece. Pier, Robson and Larson also contributed with 2 RBI's each in the game.

Freyermuth took the mound again, this time striking out six and giving up only three hits and zero runs in the game.

The Lady Lions are scheduled to be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Steubenville, Ohio to face Franciscan University for a 3:00 p.m. start.
