Beaver drops two to Mont Alto on the road

Mont Alto, PA -- The Lady Lions continued their road trip this afternoon as they took on conference rivals Penn State Mont Alto in a double header. In game one, Beaver went down 1-0 after two innings but quickly gained the lead in the third inning. A lead off double by Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) got things going for the Lady Lions. A sacrifice bunt by Amanda Palombo (Aliquippa, PA/Quigley) advanced Robson who then scored on Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) single. With Borrell on first Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) stepped to the plate and hit a double to score Borrell and then yet another double came from Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) to score Freyermuth. This gave Beaver a 3-1 lead in the game, a lead which they quickly lost in the bottom of the fourth inning when they gave up seven runs which came from six hits by Mont Alto combined with two fielding errors by Beaver. The Lady Lions, depite four players hitting doubles in the game, were not able to battle back and fell by a final score of 8-3.

Leading the offense were Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) who went 2 for 4 with a double and Nicole Bowersox who also went 2 for 4 with a double.

In the circle for the Lady Lions was Freyermuth who in six innings only struck out two and gave up nine hits.

In the second game of the day the bats for Beaver never came alive. They managed only one hit in the game coming from Nicole Bowersox in the top of the fourth inning and fell by a score of 3-0.

Freyermuth was again on the mound and threw a statistically better game giving up zero walks, striking out 5 and only giving up 5 hits.

The Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny for a 12:00 p.m. start at Woodland Hills High School.
