Softball: Lady Wildcat Bats Fall Silent Against Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team had a tough day at the plate recording only four hits in two games against Alfred University Sunday. The Lady Wildcats were swept 9-0 and 15-0 ending both games in five innings. With the losses, Penn College is now 6-18 overall.

 

In game one, freshman Alexandra Brennan recorded the only hit as the Saxon pitching staff pitched five strong innings with four strikeouts and no walks.

 

Freshman Kimberly Walter (Beavertown) recorded the loss with eight earned runs, a strikeout and three walks. Alfred put up four runs in the first and then followed with another run in the second. After scoreless play in the third and fourth, four more runs in the fifth ended the game early.

 

In game two, freshman starter Christina Mignot (Hughesville) had a rocky first inning allowing nine runs. Up 10-0 in the third, the Saxons plated its final five runs to make it 15-0. A scoreless fourth and fifth from Penn College ended the game in five.

 

Mignot ended the game with nine earned runs off of 18 hits.

 

The Lady Wildcats totaled three hits with Walter and freshmen Nicole Lo Furno (Glen Mills) and Rachael Schaeffer (Hampstead, Md.) each recording one.

 

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Scranton on Thursday, Apr. 18 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
