Beaver gets two wins against Penn State Fayette

Monaca, PA -- Beaver faced Fayette this afternoon in a PSUAC double header. In game one, Fayette jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first inning, but in the bottom of the second the Beaver bats came alive and the Lady Lions played a tight defense to hold Fayette in check. In the second inning, doubles by both Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) and Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) scored two runs. In the third inning it was a double by Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) that brought in one of the two runs in the inning. The hits continued to come in the fourth inning as Beaver added two runs on a long fly out by Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) that scored Freyermuth who singled to start the inning, and an RBI single by Taylor Larson (Beaver, PA/Beaver) that added the second run of the inning. With the score at 7-2 in favor of Beaver going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Constance Robinson (Chicago, IL/University of Chicago Charter) singled and advanced to third on passed balls and then scored on an RBI single by Amanda Palombo (Aliquippa, PA/Quigley). With two outs, and the Lady Lions in need of only two runs to end the game, junior, Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) stepped to the plate and hit a walk off home run to end the game!

Leading the offense in the game were Freyermuth who went 3 for 4 with two doubles, Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear) who went 2 for 3 and Amanda Palombo who also went 2 for 3 in the game.

On the mound was senior, Korey Freyermuth who threw 5 innigs stiking out three and only giving up three hits.

In the second game of the afternoon, Beaver went down 5-0 after only two and a half innings, but in the bottom of the third they began their comeback with a Palombo double. A single by Freyermuth added an additional base runner for Pier who trippled to score two runs. A fly out by Brinton scored Pier and a single put Borrell on base and she later scored on a hit by Robson. With the score at 5-4 in favor of Fayette, the Lady Lions still had work to do. They were able to keep Fayette off the board in the fourth and fifth innings and then went back to work at the plate in the bottom of the fifth. Beaver hit consistenly throughout the inning and played good small ball to score runs. The inning saw eight of the nine batters in the line up and Beaver added four more runs to their lead. Midway through the sixth inning, bad weather lead to the game being called and Beaver got the win by a score of 8-5.

Leading the Lady Lions at the plate were freshman, Myranda Robson, who went 3 for 3 including a triple and Laurn Pier who went 2 for 3 also with a triple.

Freyermuth was on the mound and pitched six innings giving up nine hits and five runs.

The Lady Lions return to action this weekend as they hit the road to face Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday at 2p.m.
