Softball: Lady Wildcats Split on Road at Fayette

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team bounced back after a 9-1 loss to take game two 13-7 Saturday against Penn State Fayette in a Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) doubleheader. Freshman Christina Mignot (Hughesville) recorded the win with six striekouts. With the split, the Lady Wildcats improve to 4-14 overall and 2-4 in the PSUAC.

 

In the opener, Penn College struck first with a run in the second. Freshmen Rachael Shaeffer (Hampstead, Md.) and Samantha Hill (Montgomery) each singled and advanced to get into scoring position. Freshman Nicole Lo Furno (Glen Mills) then singled to score Shaeffer for the RBI.

 

It was the only offense the Lady Wildcats were able to put together as the Lions put together eight hits in the third to score seven runs. Two more runs in the fifth ended the game early in their favor.

 

Penn College totaled only four hits in the game with sophomore Stephanie Keifrider (Douglassville) also recording a single. Junior Lacy Lose (Avis) was charged with the loss giving up all earned runs with four strikeouts.

 

In game two, the Lady Wildcats were able to put together a 14-hit effort. After scoring two runs in the second, they rallied for eight runs in the fifth to put some cushion in their lead. A run in the sixth and two ore in the seventh sealed the victory.

 

Mignot pitched all seven innings with six strikeouts and three earned runs. Freshmen Katie Kratzer (Selinsgrove) and Delaney Blubaugh (Waynesboro) each were 3 for 4 as was sophomore Britni Fennell (Conyngham) who was recorded a double.

 

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Beaver on Sunday, Apr. 7 for a noon doubleheader.
