Softball: Wildcats Struggle with Errors in Losses to Mont Alto

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team committed nine errors in a Penn State University Athletics Conference (PSUAC) doubleheader against Penn State Mont Alto Thursday losing both games 13-4 and 9-4. The errors cost the Wildcats nine unearned runs. Freshman Katie Kratzer (Selinsgrove) had a strong day in the batter's box going 4 for 7 with a run. The losses drop Penn College to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in the PSUAC.

 

In game one, freshman Kimberly Walter (Beavertown) got the start pitching all five innings with three strikeouts and eight earned runs. The Lions scored nine runs in the first three innings before Penn College put up its first run in the bottom of the third off an RBI single from freshman Nicole Lo Furno (Glen Mills).  

 

The Wildcats put up three more runs in the next inning with RBI hits from freshmen Alexandra Brennan (Saint Clair) and Karey Wolfe (Milton). The offensive surge was not enough as Mont Alto put up its final run in the fifth ending the game 13-4.

 

Penn College totaled eight hits with freshman Rachael Shaeffer (Hampstead, Md.) racking up two hits.

 

In game two, the Lions scored in every inning of the game. Penn College scored all its runs in the sixth capped off by a two-RBI double from junior Lacy Lose (Avis). Sophomore Stephanie Koleno (Moshannon) also recorded an RBI in the inning.

 

Lose recorded the loss pitching all seven innings giving up five earned runs and striking out four.

 

The Wildcats also notched eight hits in the game with Kratzer getting two as well as Lose.

 

Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday, April 2 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
