Beaver Will Play For The Title

Monaca, Pa-  The Lady Lions continued their winning ways on day one of the PSUAC Softball Tournament.

In game one, #1 seeded Beaver defeated #4 seeded Hazleton 2-1.  The game remained scoreless until the 4th inning, when Senior Ashley Watkins(Seneca Valley/Cranberry Twp) beat out an infield hit with two outs.  Sophomore Myranda Raymond (Brashear/Pittsburgh, PA) followed Watkins hustle play with a deep drive to Centerfield, clearing the fence by 30 feet to give Beaver a 2-0 lead.  Hazleton was able to scratch out a run in the fifth, but that was all the offense Hazleton could muster on the day.  Junior Korey Freyermuth(Perry Traditional/Pittsburgh, PA) kept Hazleton off balance the entire day, throwing seven innings, giving up one hit while striking out 14.  The win advanced Beaver to the winner's bracket game.

In game two, Beaver wasted no time to get on the board, scoring two in the first inning off of a Watkins 2-run home run.  Beaver's pitching and defense took over from there, and Beaver won 2-0.  Freyermuth threw another seven innings, giving up five hits and striking out five.

Beaver now advances to Monday's Championship game (1 p.m.) and will take on the winner of New Kensington and Mont Alto.

In other news, on Friday, Beaver received a bid to the upcoming USCAA national tournament.  The tournament is set to begin in Akron, Ohio on Tuesday, May 15th.
