Lady Lions Winning Streak at 12

Scranton, PA-  The Lady Lions return home from a successful cross state road trip, completing the 4-0 sweep against their east opponents.  On Saturday, it was Penn State Scranton that fell victim twice to the potent Beaver attack.

 In game one, Scranton took and early 1-0 lead, striking first in the bottom of the first.  Beaver responded, when Sophomore Myranda Raymond (Brashear/Pittsburgh, PA) led off the top of the second with a solo home run.  The offense scored one more time in the second to take a 2-1 lead, a lead which was never relinquished.  Beaver added eight in the third and one in the fourth, winning 11-1 in five innings.

In the win, Junior Korey Freyermuth, (Perry/ Pittsburgh, PA) pitched five innings, surrendering two hits, while striking out seven.  The offense pounded out 19 hits in the win, led by two hits a piece by Sophomore Lauren Pier (New Brighton/ New Brighton, PA), Raymond, Freyermuth, and Senior Jamie Karpinski (Quigley/Beaver, PA).  Freyermuth and Pier also homered in the victory.

In game two, Beaver wasted no time, scoring four times in the first inning.  This was followed by six in the third, one in the fourth, and six in the fifth.  Beaver took the game 17-0.

Freyermuth gave up three hits in the shut out, again striking out seven.  The hot bats continued, as Beaver belted out 16 hits.  Senior Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood/Ellwood City, PA) led the way with three hits (two doubles and a triple) scoring two runs and batting in two runs.  Pier and Freshman Sydney Brinton homered in the night cap.

With the wins, Beaver remains tied at the top of the standings, sitting 13-1 in PSUAC play and 20-16 overall.  The Lady Lions return to action for their season finale, on Saturday, April 28th, when they host Penn State Mont Alto, the team they currently are tied with.  The game will be for first place, with the winner hosting the upcoming PSUAC playoffs on Saturday, May 5th.  There will be a free youth clinic before the game.  Registration for the clinic will start at 10:15 a.m., with the clinic running from 10:30 – 12:30 p.m.
