Two Homeruns In Game Two Lead Beaver Past Schuylkill

Monaca, Pa- The Women's Softball Team of Penn State Beaver (14-16m 7-1 PSUAC) played at home this afternoon against Penn State Schuylkill (Schuylkill Haven, Pa).

Game one started out slow, as both teams showed great offense and defense going scoreless in the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Sydney Brinton (Brashear/Pittsburgh, Pa) singled and Rachel Borrell reached first on a fielder's choice. Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley/Penns Valley, Pa) also reached a base on a fielders choice as Borrell advanced to second. Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, Pa) was walked, and Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellwood City, Pa) reached first on an error by the first baseman, recording an RBI and scoring in Borrell. Schuylkill tied the game in the fifth, with a homerun of their own. In the sixth, Bowersox singled, and stole both second and third base. Scialdone was walked, and Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley/Cranberry Township, Pa) tripled, and scored in both Bowersox and Scialdone. Myranda Raymond (Brashear/Pittsburgh, Pa) doubled soon after, and scored in Watkins. Beaver won game one 4-1. Korey Freyermuth (Perry/Pittsburgh, Pa) pitched seven innings, allowing only four hits, and struckout seven players.

In game two, things started out in Schulykill's favor as they scored three runs in the first inning. Watkins singled in the fourth, and Raymond recorded her 35th RBI of the season with a triple which scored in Watkins. Schulykill hit another homerun in the top of the fifth, but Jamie Karpinski (Quigley/Beaver, Pa) started off a great bottom of the fifth inning for Beaver when she hit a double. Bowersox tripled, and scored in Karpinski. Pier singled afterwards, scoring in Bowersox as well. Pier stole second, and Scialdone hit her first homerun of the season, scoring in Pier. After taking a 5-4 lead at the end of the fifth, Beaver scored eight more runs in the sixth, going on to win game two 13-4. Freyermuth pitched six innings, allowing just four hits, and struckout four players.

The Lady Lions advance to 7-1 in the PSUAC, and return to the field Thursday, April  19, 2012 at 2 p.m agaisnt Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, Pa).
