The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team was swept in conference action by Penn State Fayette

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team was swept in conference action by Penn State Fayette Saturday afternoon.  The Lions staged a come-from-behind win in game one winning 9-6 in eight innings and put on an offensive show in game two winning 13-0 in five.  The losses drop the Wildcats to 1-13 overall and 0-2 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference while Fayette improves to 4-8 and 2-0 respectively. 

 In game one tied at six in the eighth, the Lions plated three capitalizing on two hits and an error.  In the bottom of the inning, after an error from Fayette's right fielder, freshman Stephanie Koleno (Moshannon) tried to score from first but was thrown out at the plate ending the game in favor of the Lions.  Pitcher Katie Volek recorded the win with six runs and three strikeouts while freshman Emily Yoder (Catawissa) recorded the loss giving up five unearned runs and striking out four.   

 The Wildcats got on the board early when freshman Maggie Culkins (Bloomsburg) hit a two-out single up the middle to score pinch runner Hannah Latour (Howard) from second.  They added two more the next inning when Koleno hit a triple to score sophomore Dana Ritter (Walden, N.Y.) and Yoder.  

In the third with bases loaded, Ritter hit a deep ground ball to second to score Calkins from third.  Yoder and freshman Abbey Winn (Templeton) followed with back-to-back RBI singles making it a 6-0 game.

Fayette staged its comeback starting in the sixth with four runs.  With two outs and no one on, the team strung five hits in a row including a two RBI triple by Moria Kromer.

In the seventh, Yoder came in relief for starter Lacy Lose (Avis).  After two singles and an error to load the bases, Stephanie Longo hit a two RBI double to tie up the game.  Yoder got out of the inning with three strikeouts.  Volek shut down the Penn College offense to take it into extra innings.

As a team, the Wildcats had 12 hits with Ritter, Calkins and Koleno each with two.  

 In game two, after two scoreless inning, the Lions put up four in the third including a three RBI HR from Volek.  Four more came in the fifth, including another three RBI homerun, this time from Jessica Stairs.  Lose came in relief for start Yoder.

 Yoder ended the game going 4.1 innings with eight earned runs and three strikeouts.  Lose gave up three hits in relief with three unearned runs.  Fayette pitcher Kromer recorded the win going five strong.

As a team, Penn College totaled five hits.
