Lehigh Valley Holds Off Greater Allegheny For First PSUAC Men's Soccer Title in Program History

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - On an unseasonably warm night in State College, Penn State Lehigh Valley grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first half and held off Penn State Greater Allegheny to emerge with a 2-1 victory in the 2024 PSUAC Men's Soccer Championship at Panzer Stadium on Penn State's University Park campus.

Lehigh Valley has been here before, experiencing some heartbreaking losses in some really bad weather. Their results, like the weather, were better for them in 2024. The win gives Lehigh Valley its first ever men's soccer title in program history after multiple runner-up finishes in the last five years.

Mahdi Ali opened the scoring in the 37th minute, not long after subbing in for an injured teammate. Ali's goal was followed less than 30 seconds later as Jack Montesdeoca, who took over a Greater Allegheny turnover and booted the ball from nearly 40 yards out and it sailed over the keeper's head into the back of the net.

Greater Allegheny battled back in the second half, as a shot off the corner post found its way to Michael Damoah who passed it to Max Whitson for Greater Allegheny's only goal of the night.

Lehigh Valley got seven shots and Greater Allegheny just five in a physical, defensive battle that included 23 total fouls.

Lehigh Valley earns the PSUAC's automatic bid into the 2024 United States Collegiate Athletic Association's Division II Men's Soccer National Championship in Pittsburgh, Pa. The USCAA tournament begins next Thursday, November 14th.
