GA Lions Achieve Five Goals to Take First Conference Win

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team drop five goals, including two from sophomore forward Ghana Phuyel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), to take their first conference win of the 2013-14 season.

GA was first to answer in the first half as freshman forward Hanxiao Cui (Shanghai, China/Archbishop Ryan) served the ball to freshman midfield Gerardo Diaz (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/I.C. Academy), who was able to place the ball through the goalie's hands in the upper left of the net.

To open the second half, freshman forward Manoj Sharma (India/Baldwin) dribbled down the field, managing a goal in the lower left of the net. Phuyel answered next as he expanded the GA lead to three. Less than two minutes later, Schuylkill notched their first goal of the game, 3-1. Just 26 seconds later, Phuyel tallied his second goal of the game as he brought it in from the corner to put it in the back of the net, 4-1.

Schuylkill was able to knock in two more goals throughout the second half. Freshman forward Bengaly Diane (New Jersey/James J. Ferris) capped the scoring summary for the game, as he received a ball from Sharma and fired it into the net, ending the game with a 5-3 score.

Freshman goaltender Michael Anderson (Herminie, Pa./Yough) faced twelve shots on goal, stopping nine. The Greater Allegheny Lions were able to rip 31 shots on Schuylkill's defense, contributing to the win.

Greater Allegheny travel to Westmoreland County Community College on Thursday for a 5 p.m. start.
