Beaver Earns Its First Win of the Season

Unionville, PA - The Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer Team (1-2, 1-0 PSUAC) led wire-to-wire to earn its first win of the season against PSUAC foe, Penn State Mont Alto (0-2, 0-2 PSUAC) 

Although Mont Alto controlled the action much of the first half, Beaver had its opportunities as well, miss the back of the net on several occasions. However, Beaver got on the scoreboard first as Desmond Amberetu (Bowie/Bowie, MD) tallied the first goal of Beaver's fledgling season on a through ball from sophomore Mike Biskup (Center/Aliquippa, PA) in the 41st minute.

TJ Couch (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA), Brad Prinkey (Freedom/Freedom, PA) and Mark Shaheen (Avonworth/Philadelphia, PA) anchored the Beaver defense to keep the Lions in the lead, 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, Beaver took hold of the game as freshman Mahmoud Helal (Choueifat-Egypt/Cairo, Egypt) made a nice move in traffice to score an unassisted goal and give Beaver a 2-0 cushion. Then in the 73rd minute, Brian Nuckols (Langley/Pittsburgh, PA) scored on a header from a corner taken by Jason Schachter (Langley/Pittsburgh, PA)

Only a lone goal in the game's 90th minute (89:10) prevented Beaver and keeper Cody Killmeyer (Langley/Pittsburgh, PA) from earning a shutout win. Killmeyer played spactacular and had 9 saves in the win.

Beaver outshot Mont Alto, 27-14, and had three times as many corner kick opportunities (9-3).

Beaver will next face Pitt-Greensburg on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 4 p.m. at Green Valley Park.
