Mont Alto Wins Exciting PSUAC Men's Basketball Championship Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Mont Alto needed a second half comeback but used an early second half run to capture their second PSUAC Men's Basketball title in five years, topping Penn State York 64-61 in the Bryce Jordan Center.

The top seeds from each respective division put on a back-and-forth display on the University Park campus as York held a four-point halftime lead before Mont Alto took the lead less than five minutes into the second half. The teams were tied multiple times and York took a brief lead at 57-55 with 4:18 left, but JR Powe hit a three for Mont Alto to give them a 58-57 lead. The Lions wouldn't relinquish that advantage, and York's last second effort fell short as Mont Alto began their celebration.

Mont Alto's John Teague led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Powe added 17 points and 10 boards. Conference Player of the Year Quintyn Flemister finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists for the champions.

York was paced by Michael Coleman's 15 points and nine rebounds while Connor Hostetter came off the bench to provide 14 points for the East champs.

With the win Mont Alto grabs the PSUAC's automatic bid into the USCAA Small College National Championship tournament which begins March 8 on the Penn State Fayette campus.
