Men’s Basketball: Wildcats Notch First Win of Season with 63-54 Win over PSU Schuylkill

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With the help of 16 points and nine rebounds from freshman Thomas Ross (Williamsport), the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's basketball team broke a seven game losing streak and notched its first win of the season with a 63-54 victory over Penn State Schuylkill. Freshman Christopher Johnson (Lorton, Va.) added 14 points and freshman Vincent Mauck (Philadelphia) 10 to the mix. The win improves Penn College to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

Tied at 30 opening the second half, the game went back and forth until a 7-0 run from the Wildcats put them up 40-33. A 14-0 run capped off by a layup from Johnson gave the team its biggest lead of the half at 58-43 in the fifth.

Schuylkill came as close as six but Penn College held on for the nine-point victory.

For the game, the Wildcats shot 12-22 (.447) from the field and out-rebounded Schuylkill 38-37. Freshman Marquis Delgado (Mansfield) led the team with six assists.

Penn College opened the game on a 5-0 run, started by a three from Johnson. At 14:30, Ross hit a three to give his team the biggest lead of the half at 13-6.

A total of 11 lead changes and ties followed. Down 26-30 in the closing seconds, the Wildcats went on a 4-0 run capped off by two free throws from Mauck to tie it going into the break.

For the half, Penn College shot 9-25 (.360) from the field and were strong on the line going 8-10 (.800).

Next up, Penn College travels to Alfred University on Sunday, Dec. 8 for a non-conference game at 2 p.m.
